Elmhurst Police report the arrest of four suspects that were apprehended committing theft of catalytic converters on Sunday, August 21, 2022.
At approximately 5:30 a.m. an alert resident saw several men crouching near a parked vehicle and heard sawing noise in the condominium complex parking lot at 110 W. Butterfield Road. The resident promptly called 9-1-1 and Elmhurst police officers responded to the scene. Upon the arrival of officers, three men began running north from the lot toward Butterfield Road. The three suspects were taken into custody within minutes. Officers also located a fourth suspect sitting in the driver seat of a silver Infiniti sedan in the lot. Officers located a reciprocating saw, saw blades, ½ ton floor jack, and sawed-off catalytic converter at the crime scene.
Investigation at the scene determined that one catalytic converter had been stolen from a Hyundai SUV and another catalytic converter had been partially sawed-off from a second Hyundai SUV in the parking lot. The four suspects were transported to the Elmhurst Police Department for further investigation. The suspect’s Infiniti was impounded.
In consultation with the DuPage County State’s Attorney’s Office the suspects were charged with the following offenses and transported to the DuPage County Jail for bond hearings:
- Damarcus O. Burnett, male, age 19, 1200 blk. of N. Lockwood, Chicago, IL. Charged with: Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Attempt Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Resisting/Obstructing Peace Officer, Obstructing Identification.
- Omarion M. Booker, male, age 18, 4800 blk. of W. Gladys, Chicago, IL. Charged with: Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Attempt Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Resisting/Obstructing Peace Officer.
- Kevin L. Gentry, male, age 19, 600 blk. of N. Leamington, Chicago, IL. Charged with: Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Attempt Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Resisting/Obstructing Peace Officer.
- Devin Gentry, male, age 18, 600 blk. of N. Leamington, Chicago, IL. Charged with Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part, Attempt Possession of Essential Motor Vehicle Part.
