Sign up now for the next session

Citizen’s Police Academy is a 12-week program designed to give Elmhurst residents a general overview of law enforcement practices and a behind-the-scenes look at their police department. The program provides participants with a better understanding of challenges faced by police officers in the field along with insight into the handling of certain types of incidents. Many of the classes offer opportunities for hands-on participation with actual police equipment and training procedures. Topics include evidence and crime scene processing, laws of arrest, search & seizure, traffic stops, investigations and crime analysis, internet investigation, K-9 Unit, DUI and Traffic enforcement, crisis negotiation, and more.

Classes are held from 6:30 to 9:30 PM on consecutive Wednesday evenings for 12 weeks. The next session will run from March 9 through May 25, 2022. The program is free of charge but is limited to 25 students per session. Participants must be over the age of twenty-one and must live or work in the City of Elmhurst.
