Elmhurst Police Investigate Stolen Motor Vehicle
Elmhurst Police are investigating a stolen motor vehicle that was taken at approximately 5:10 AM on November 8, 2021 in the area of Church and Poplar in Elmhurst.
Officers responded to a call from a resident who discovered that his vehicle had been stolen in the early morning hours. Upon reviewing video footage, two offenders are seen walking towards the vehicle to act as look outs and appear to be holding handguns while a third offender uses what is suspected to be a vehicle reprogramming tablet to remotely start the vehicle. The offenders then fled in the stolen vehicle along with the vehicle they arrived in.
Nationwide, there has been an increased crime trend of offenders using reprogramming tablets to remotely access Jeep and Dodge vehicles. Often targeted are Jeep Grand Cherokees, Dodge Challengers, Chargers, and Durangos, specifically SRT, Trackhawk, and Hellcat performance models.
The vehicle taken was a black 2020 Jeep Grand Cherokee SRT bearing Illinois registration CZ42124. Elmhurst Police remind residents to immediately call 911 if they see any suspicious activity. This incident is under active investigation by the Elmhurst Police Investigations Unit. Anyone with information is asked to contact the Elmhurst Police Department at 630-530-3050.
