Susan Rose Accepting Darrell Whistler Award

Commissioner Susan Rose receives Darrell Whistler Special Service Recognition Award

Elmhurst, IL-   At the City Council Meeting held on Monday, March 1, 2021, Mayor Morley presented the annual "Darrell Whistler Special Service Recognition Award" to Susan Rose for her years of loyal and distinguished service to the City of Elmhurst. The award is typically given by the mayor to a volunteer who has displayed exceptional service to the City of Elmhurst. Due to the pandemic, the 2020 and 2021 events were cancelled, however Mayor Morley waited to distribute the award safely at the City Council Meeting.

Commissioner Rose has served the City of Elmhurst for over 30 years, first as Alderman of the 3rd Ward and then as Commissioner for the Zoning and Planning Commission. Susan has a background in social services and as 3rd Ward Alderman, quickly discovered her fascination with zoning. She served as Chair of the Development, Planning and Zoning Committee for several years. After her service as Alderman, Susan was appointed to the Zoning and Planning Commission where she worked alongside Darrell Whistler before becoming Chair.

“I am honored to receive this award and to have worked with Darrell. He showed me that service to this City should be based on genuine respect and commitment, and that is what I’ve tried to do.” states Commissioner Rose. “Elmhurst has given me and my family so much and I have been proud to be able to give back.”

Mayor Morley states, “Susan has been one of my public service mentors. I was proud to work alongside her as alderman. There is no one who has better mastered making meetings productive by defusing a contentious debate. She knows how to bring the issue back to focus and remind everyone why they are here.”

Commissioner Rose is the third recipient of the Darrell Whistler Special Service Recognition Award.
