SPECIAL TREE DEBRIS COLLECTION, SATURDAY, AUGUST 25th:
The City’s refuse contractor, Republic Services will begin a full city-wide clean up starting at 7 a.m. on Saturday, August 15th. Residents are asked to place tree debris in the parkway by 7 a.m. that morning. Tree material does not have to be bundled; however, we are asking residents to cut them into manageable piles if possible. Republic Services will pick-up as much tree debris as possible on Saturday and will return next week to continue pick-up. City crews will be doing an additional pickup next week to collect tree limbs that are larger than 8 feet long and over 3” in diameter.
This City is also asking residents to avoid parking on the street during the clean-up. Parked vehicles make it difficult for large trucks and equipment to move through and also hampers with the removal of debris as the equipment operators have to work around parked vehicles. If there are too many parked vehicles to work safely, clean-up on that street will not be completed and crews will return at a later date to remove.
Public Works and Forestry Crews are removing debris that may cause public safety hazards. Crews are working with ComEd to remove trees that are tangled in power lines. Crews cannot remove these trees until ComEd has de-energized the power circuit. Any resident that sees trees tangled in power lines or exposed power lines should dial 9-1-1 and stay away from the area.

The following information was posted on ComEd’s Facebook page: Crews are working diligently to restore power as quickly and safely as possible after severe thunderstorms and winds caused significant damage across our service area. Customers in the same neighborhood may be restored before some neighbors, due to different transformers providing power to different sections of the street or the power line directly feeding electricity to your property being damaged. As crews work to repair our equipment, restoration times will be updated to provide customers more accurate estimates on when their power will be back on. Please continue to monitor ComEd.com/Map to get the latest information about your outage.

______
The City is currently cleaning up the damage from yesterday’s storm. We have all Public Works crews working on this and have brought in additional contractors to assist. The priority will be to clear debris and downed limbs from the roadways to allow for safe travel. There will be a special refuse collection for public and private tree debris. Residents are asked to place cut and bundled tree debris in the parkway for pickup. This collection does not include household items or trash, but is limited to tree limbs and branches. Due to the volume and extent of this damage, this clean up will take some time. We ask that residents remain patient as we work through this.
We understand that many residents are still without power. We are pressing ComEd to prioritize Elmhurst in restoring power in our community.
