[ARCHIVED] Aug 10th Storm Update

UPDATE ON POWER LOSS DUE TO AUG. 10TH STORM:

Two of the City’s main power lines have been damaged, causing 7,817 of customers in Elmhurst to be without power. ComEd has advised that this is a multi-day repair process.

The information was posted on ComEd’s Facebook page: Our current estimate is that all customers will be restored by 3PM on Saturday, August 15. We recommend customers take whatever steps they feel necessary to keep themselves and their families safe during this time. Our employees are working around the clock and mutual assistance crews are coming in from other states to help restore power. We will share information with our customers, such as outage causes and estimated times of restoration, as soon as they are available. Please continue to report your power outages at ComEd.com/Report or by calling 1800-334-7661 and dialing “1.”

The City is working closely with our ComeED representative to ensure that this is the worst case scenario and that power is restored in our community as soon as possible.

Residents should make accommodations to prepare for multiple days of loss of power. The City is monitoring this situation closely and will provide updates as they become available.

Please continue to track ComEd’s website for outages and updates: https://www.comed.com/…/CheckOutageSta…/Pages/OutageMap.aspx.

The City is currently cleaning up the damage from yesterday’s storm. We have all Public Works crews working on this and have brought in additional contractors to assist. The priority will be to clear debris and downed limbs from the roadways to allow for safe travel. There will be a special refuse collection for public and private tree debris. Residents are asked to place cut and bundled tree debris in the parkway for pickup. This collection does not include household items or trash, but is limited to tree limbs and branches. Due to the volume and extent of this damage, this clean up will take some time. We ask that residents remain patient as we work through this.

We understand that many residents are still without power. We are pressing ComEd to prioritize Elmhurst in restoring power in our community.

Residents should report power outages to ComEd at 1.800.edison1 or on their website:

ComEd’s power outage map is a helpful resource in tracking outages and updates:
