[ARCHIVED] Community Safety Message from Mayor Morley

Elmhurst Community Member,

This afternoon, after being alerted to peaceful protests planned in this area, a decision was made to close our downtown City Centre businesses and restrict access to York Street. Our hope is that this remains a peaceful gathering.

Due to public safety concerns regarding widespread vandalism and looting last night in the western suburbs, our downtown will remain closed this evening. Residents are asked to maintain awareness and call 9-1-1 if they witness any suspicious activity. Law enforcement has seen a rise in criminal behavior in the evening hours, therefore residents are advised to stay home.

With the cooperation of surrounding communities and the DuPage County Sheriff, our law enforcement continues to work diligently to maintain order and continue to keep our community safe. Again, please stay home this evening and call 9-1-1 if you require any emergency assistance. For the latest information on this evolving incident, please visit Elmhurst.org. We will contact you again through this CodeRED messaging system if we need you to take any further action. Stay safe, and be well.

 Sincerely,

Steve Morley

Mayor of the City of Elmhurst
