WORKNET DUPAGE SUPPORTS WORKERS IMPACTED BY COVID-19

WorkNet DuPage is committed to providing workers and businesses with every tool in our arsenal to come out of the COVID-19 pandemic stronger than ever. Through our new From Layoff to Launch webpage, DuPage County residents can quickly and easily access a wide range of assistance to take back control of their careers in these uncertain times.

In addition to no-cost career planning and job search services, employees facing COVID-19-related or other layoffs may qualify for up-to-$10,000 in federal Workforce Innovation and Opportunity Act (WIOA) grant funding (money that does not need to be paid back). Grants can be used to attend job training, certificate, or professional development programs that lead to in-demand careers that offer strong earning potential. Those receiving unemployment can continue to do so while attending these approved training programs.

To learn more and to submit an application, visit: www.worknetdupage.org/launch.

DuPage County Economic Development Chairman Tim Elliott said, “Despite societal shifts toward an online environment, remote work is not an option for hospitality and service industry workers and others who have been hardest hit. WorkNet DuPage offers hands-on solutions for affected workers during this uncertain time.”

Free From Layoff to Launch webinars will be offered through the workNet DuPage website featuring representatives from DuPage County Workforce Development Division, the U.S. Department of Labor, and the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES). To sign up, visit:www.worknetdupage.org/launch.

Topics include:

· How to file for unemployment insurance benefits

· What to expect after filing

· Health insurance coverage and 401(k) options

· How to apply for up-to-$10,000 in professional training grants

· No-cost career services including virtual workshops and resume reviews

WorkNet DuPage Career Center Executive Director Lisa Schvach said, “The unprecedented challenges facing DuPage County families and businesses make our team at workNet DuPage more acutely aware of and dedicated to our mission than ever. We will use every resource at our disposal, including remote technology solutions, to guide job seekers toward increased earning potential and reemployment.”
