Please be advised that storms are anticipated in our area this evening. The City is encouraging residents to stay aware of local forecasts and be prepared to act quickly if storm warnings are issued. Current conditions can be found at www.weather.gov.
The Streets Division has cleared sewers and low-lying areas and inlets have been checked, and several cycles of City street sweeping have been completed. Residents can assist the City by helping to keep inlets clear of debris. The City’s series of completed stormwater mitigation projects have been working as designed to reduce overland flooding.
The ground is currently very saturated and ponding water in grass areas may occur. Backyard standing water in areas that are naturally low or are part of a natural drainage path. The City of Elmhurst asks residents to only report standing water that persists for at least 48 hours after the conclusion of a rain event. The exception to this would be if the standing water is causing structural flooding to a home or garage.
As always, residents should call 1-800-EDISON1 in the event of power outages or report the outage via ComEd.com or via the ComEd app on their mobile devices. For their safety they should stay away from all downed power lines and call 911 should they feel there is immediate danger.
