The City of Elmhurst just received notice that the contractor working for IDOT will begin paving the final surface of North Avenue on September 11th at 4:00 am. Work will begin at the west end of the project (Villa Ave in Villa Park) and will continue east to I-290 with the goal of completing all eastbound lanes by the end of the day. Two paving machines will be used and all eastbound and westbound traffic will be reduced to one lane of traffic. Commuters are advised to expect major delays not only on North Avenue, but also all north/south streets including Route 83 and York Road. The current plan is for the contractor to switch to paving westbound lanes on Thursday, September 12th beginning at the east end of the project (I-290) continuing west to Villa Ave in Villa Park. This will result in additional delays.
Significant delays are to be expected. Motorists are advised to use alternate routes and exercise patience for the safety of the workers. The City of Elmhurst understands the frustration that residents and commuters endure during these projects. Thank you for patience during these IDOT local improvements.
