The Chicago area is expected to experience substantial snowfall this weekend. Snow will develop this afternoon and continue through Saturday morning, resulting in 5 to 9 inches of accumulation. Lake effect snow is expected Saturday night into Sunday, adding to the snow totals.

City crews will begin salting and plowing operations this afternoon when necessary. Main roadways will be treated first, followed by local roadways. City ordinance prohibits parking on City streets after 2" of snowfall. Given the forecast for this weekend and to facilitate safe and effective snow removal operations, please do not park on the street. Parked vehicles can create hazardous conditions for plow drivers and cause areas to be left untreated.
