City staff has been working hard to make Elmhurst streets safe for travel. Public Works crews have been working since around 7:30 pm, Sunday, November 25 to salt and plow City streets. As of Monday morning, Main and side streets have been treated at least once. Main streets were plowed and salted again after 4am in preparation for the morning rush, while work on side streets continues. Although snowfall was expected to taper off by noon on Monday, drifting/blowing snow continues to present a challenge and creates the need for continued snow removal operations. In the Central Business District, all parking lots and decks have been plowed at least once. Sidewalks have been cleared once, with a full clean up planned for Monday evening.
Some traffic signals and signs have been covered up by the blowing wind and snow. City crews are out uncovering them, however motorists should use extra caution when approaching intersections where these may not be 100% clear.
