The Elmhurst Police Department continues to take part in a year-long grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that aims to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI, seatbelt, and distracted driving laws. As part of the grant, periodic roadside safety checkpoints will be set up throughout the year.
On Friday, July 20th, 2018, a roadside safety checkpoint will take place on a major roadway in Elmhurst beginning at 11:00 PM on Friday night and continuing until 3:00 AM on Saturday morning. During the safety checkpoint, vehicles will be stopped at a predetermined interval and checked for violations.
These checkpoints have proven to be a significant deterrent to impaired driving. Motorists are encouraged to make alternate travel arrangements whenever they plan to be drinking or to pre-designate a driver who will not be drinking.
As always, motorists are encouraged to drive carefully and to buckle up!
