ROADSIDE SAFETY CHECKPOINT THIS WEEKEND
The Elmhurst Police Department continues to take part in a year- long grant from the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT) that aims to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI, seatbelt, and distracted driving laws.
The next campaign of this grant in Elmhurst will begin on Thursday, June 28th, continuing through July 8th. This period of extra enforcement will encompass the Independence Day holiday, which is all too often a deadly time on Illinois roads. This grant allows extra officers to be on patrol looking for impaired drivers, distracted drivers, and seatbelt violations. The majority of this extra enforcement will take place during the overnight hours, which are statistically the most dangerous time to be on the roadway.
Motorists are encouraged to make alternate travel arrangements if they plan to be drinking or to designate a driver who will not be drinking. Anyone seeing a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver is encouraged to call 9-1-1. As always, motorists are encouraged to drive safely and buckle up.
