At approximately 2:00 p.m., Elmhurst Firefighters were called to the scene of a serious accident that occurred on inbound I290 at St. Charles Rd at the 29 mile marker.  

The accident involving 2 passenger vehicles and 2 semi-trucks has caused one fatality and one non-life threatening injury. Inbound I290 traffic is being rerouted off of the interstate at North Ave onto local side streets. Commuters should avoid the area.  

The cause of the accident is under investigation.
