Elmhurst, IL - The Chicago area is expected to experience a mix of precipitation and a severe drop in temperatures during the next few hours.  The plummeting temperatures will possibly cause flash freezing of wet pavement surfaces during the evening commute.  Residents are encouraged to avoid traveling this evening due to varying roadway conditions.  Also, please use caution when walking outside due to the potential for slippery conditions.  City crews will begin salting operations as soon as the expected rain subsides and before the cold temperatures reach our area.  Main roadways will be treated first, followed by local roadways.   The City will be conducting a full salting operation this evening to maintain safe roadway conditions.
