Elmhurst, IL — The City of Elmhurst has appointed David Oberg as Director of the Elmhurst History Museum. In his new role, Oberg will provide leadership and management for the museum to fulfill its mission to engage people with history through thoughtful collection, enlightened exhibits, and diverse educational experiences.
Oberg is a museum professional with 27 years of experience in the museum field including 11 years as an Executive Director. He comes to the City as the former Executive Director of the Grayslake Heritage Center & Museum. He is a past President of the Illinois Association of Museums (IAM) and has served as an officer or trustee on numerous boards throughout his career. He holds a Bachelors of Arts in History and Political Science and a Masters of Arts in History from Northern Illinois University.
Oberg states, “I am excited at the prospect of working with the board, staff and volunteers to take the museum into new territory and to continue building bridges in the community.”
As Elmhurst History Museum Director, Oberg will manage all aspects of the Museum’s operations, directing the professional and administrative staff. He will also work closely with the board of Elmhurst Heritage Foundation, and serve as a department director for the City of Elmhurst, under the director of City Manager, Jim Grabowski.
Grabowski states, “Dave will be a great addition to the City of Elmhurst. His extensive experience in the museum field along with his enthusiasm for bringing history to the public will make him a great asset to our community and for the future of Elmhurst History Museum.”
