[ARCHIVED] City Experienced Flooding Causing Many Road Closures

Elmhurst, IL —Heavy rains that occurred in the early evening of June 14th caused ground flooding in several areas of Elmhurst, leading to road closures on the following streets: North Avenue at I-290, Route 83 at the Railroad Tracks, York & Lake/I-290, and Palmer Drive at First.


The City’s recently constructed stormwater basins operated as designed. There were several areas of localized street flooding that were addressed by the City’s Street Department. Crews will continue to flush and clean areas impacted by the flooding and wastewater operators will continue to monitor the lift stations and sewer flows into the wastewater plant throughout the evening.

All roads are now open. Rain Fall Data as of 8:05 pm: Lake & Walnut 2.2" Lower Elmhurst 1.6" Atrium 0.8" North Elmhurst 2.1" South Reservoir 1.2" Wastewater Treatment Plant 1.8".
