Elmhurst Firefighters respond to residential fires

Elmhurst, IL- Wednesday night, at 7:52 p.m., Elmhurst companies responded to the 300 block of North Walnut for a possible structure fire after a lightning strike.  Homeowners stated that the house shook and it sounded like a bomb went off. They checked the house, which had a slight odor of smoke and called 911.  Upon arrival of the fire department, light smoke was visible coming out of the attic vents.  Elmhurst companies made access to the attic and were able to extinguish the fire using 5 gallons of water. The damage was limited to the area of the lightning strike.

Thursday morning at 4:44 a.m., the Elmhurst Fire Department was called to the 500 block of Wrightwood for a garage fire.  Upon arrival, Elmhurst Companies encountered a fully involved detached garage fire.  The homeowner stated that a loud noise woke her.  About 15 minutes later, their neighbor was knocking on the door telling them that the garage was on fire.  The fire was extinguished by 5:10 a.m. The cause of the fire is undetermined at this time and the garage was a total loss.
