Elmhurst Police have charged an 18 year old male from Chicago with weapon offenses following an accidental shooting which occurred inside of a car in the 200 Block of Clinton on February 12, 2017 at 10:00 p.m.

Elmhurst Police were contacted by hospital staff at Gottleib Hospital in Melrose Park reporting that a gunshot victim was in their emergency room for treatment. Subsequent investigation revealed that Mickiel J. Smith was visiting a friend in Elmhurst when a gun he was holding discharged, shooting him in the thigh. He told police that the car was parked at the time of the shooting. The gun was recovered by police and found to be reported stolen during a residential burglary in Hillside.

Mickiel J. Smith was treated and released from the hospital and charged with Unlawful Use of a Weapon and Possession of a Firearm without a FOID Card. He was released on bond.
