Elmhurst Police report the arrest of the offender in several cases of Burglary and Theft from motor vehicles during the past three months. On Thursday, January 12, 2017, Elmhurst Police responded to a report from a resident who observed a male subject inside their garage on the 800 blk. of S. Linden Ave. The offender fled from the scene and was not located. Elmhurst Police then received additional reports of burglaries to unlocked motor vehicles in the area that had occurred prior to the Linden Ave. incident.
On Friday, January 13, 2017, Elmhurst Police detectives were alerted to the arrest of an offender entering unlocked vehicles in the unincorporated Yorkfield area by the DuPage County Sheriff’s Office. A joint investigation between DuPage Sheriff’s Police and Elmhurst Police revealed the offender had entered numerous unlocked motor vehicles in the south Elmhurst area during the months of November and December 2016 and January 2017.
Elmhurst detectives have recovered several items of burglary and theft proceeds that have not yet been associated with any reported vehicle burglaries. Residents are encouraged to contact the Elmhurst Police Department to document any burglaries or thefts which may have been previously unreported. As always, residents are strongly encouraged to remove valuables from their parked cars and keep their unattended vehicles locked to prevent theft.
The offender in these incidents has been identified as Darius Anthony, age 23, of the 5800 block of Prospect Ave, Berkeley, IL. Elmhurst Police charged Anthony with eight (8) counts of Burglary on Tuesday, January 24, 2017 for incidents stemming from this investigation. Anthony is currently held at the DuPage County Jail on $10,000 bond.
