Elmhurst Police are Investigating a Criminal Damage to Property by Use of a Firearm
On Monday, January 23, 2017 at 3:00 pm, Elmhurst police responded to the 800 block of South Euclid at a private residence for a criminal damage to property complaint to what appeared to be a gunshot through the front windshield of a parked motor vehicle in a driveway of a residence. Subsequent investigation revealed that a 17-year-old male/juvenile used a handgun to shoot at the front windshield of the victim’s parked vehicle over a disagreement involving a girl. The 17-year-old suspect was arrested and the handgun was recovered by the Elmhurst police officers. The juvenile is being charged with aggravated unlawful use of a weapon and criminal damage to property. He was transported to the Kane County Juvenile Detention Center to await a juvenile court hearing Tuesday morning.
There is no threat to any students in District 205 Schools. The Elmhurst Police Department considers this to be an isolated incident where the target was property only. The weapon has been recovered and the offender is in custody. No one was hurt in this incident. Anyone with questions or concerns can contact the Elmhurst Police Department.
