[ARCHIVED] City of Elmhurst Completes Walnut/Myrtle/Evergreen Stormwater Improvement Project

Stormwater Project Completed

The final section of 72-inch storm sewer pipe has been installed into the Elmhurst Quarry Flood Control Facility and the area has been restored, signaling the completion of the City of Elmhurst  Walnut/Myrtle/Evergreen Stormwater Improvement Project.  This $5,000,000 project provides flood protection to 76 homes located north of First Street, east of the Elmhurst Quarry.  These homes experienced flooding from the rainstorms in 2010 and 2013.  This project was the first of seven projects to be started in 2016 by the City, to provide structural flooding relief to residents.

This project involved the construction of 4,000 lineal feet of large diameter storm sewer down First Street, Myrtle Avenue, Second Street and Evergreen Avenue up to Third Street.  Approximately 20 acre- feet of floodwaters will be diverted into the Elmhurst Quarry Flood Control Facility, which is owned and operated by DuPage County.

“We are thankful to the County Board and County Stormwater Management staff for working with the City to provide this much needed outfall for the stormwater”, stated Mayor Steven Morley.  “Without this assistance, this project would not have moved forward as quickly as it did to provide relief to our residents.”
