The Elmhurst Police Department has been awarded a grant by the Illinois Department of Transportation (IDOT). The goal of this grant is to reduce fatal and serious injury crashes with additional enforcement of DUI and seatbelt laws.
The first campaign of this grant will begin on Friday, October 28th, 2016 and continue through November 2nd. This grant allows extra officers to be on patrol looking for impaired drivers and seatbelt violations. The majority of this extra enforcement will take place during the overnight hours, which is the most dangerous time to be on the roadway.
Motorists are encouraged to drive safely and to always buckle up. If they are planning on drinking during any Halloween activities, they should make alternate driving arrangements. People are also encouraged to contact police if they see a vehicle that appears to be driven by an intoxicated driver.
