The Public Affairs and Safety and Public Works and Building Committee held several meetings to discuss the safety of the crossing at York Street and the Illinois Prairie Path. The committees recently signed an engineering contract to evaluate ways to make the crossing safer for pedestrians. This week the City of Elmhurst, Elmhurst Park District, and County worked together on several improvements to the crossing with the intent of improving its safety. Scheduled work included the trimming and removal of select vegetation that blocked pedestrian and driver visibility, refreshed striping paint at the crosswalk, and a new “stop for pedestrian” sign that was placed in the center of York Street. This work aims to draw safety awareness to both drivers and pedestrians while improving the overall safety of crossing.
