Those seeking to run for local political office at the April 4, 2017 Consolidated Election may pick-up candidate packets from the City Clerk at the Administration Office beginning Tuesday, September 20, 2016. Mayor, City Clerk, City Treasurer and Seven (7) Aldermanic positions one (1) for each of the seven (7) Wards, are up for election.

The first date to circulate petitions for candidacy is Tuesday, September 20, 2016.

Candidate filing will take place Monday, December 12, 2016 thru Monday, December 19, 2016 at the Administration Office in City Hall, 209 N. York St. between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. M-F. If multiple candidates from the same Ward are in position at the open of business (8:30 a.m.) on Monday, December 12, 2016 they will file simultaneously and a lottery will be used to determine ballot placement. If multiple candidates from the same Ward file within the last hour of filing (4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday, December 19th) they will be considered filed simultaneously and a lottery will be used to determine ballot placement.

Lottery for ballot placement will take place at the Administration Office at 10:00 a.m., Tuesday, December 20, 2016. The lottery is open to the public though candidates are not required to attend.

Nomination papers shall be deemed to be valid unless objections are filed in writing (an original and two copies) within five business days after the last day for filing nomination papers. The objector’s petitions are filed with the same office in which the nominating petitions are filed. Objections can be filed between December 20, 2016 and December 27, 2016 during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. in the Administration Office. Please note City Hall will be closed at noon on Friday, December 23rd and all day on Monday, December 26th.

Copies of Candidate Packets can be obtained thru F.O.I.A. Copies will be available for immediate distribution after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 13, 2016. Copies can be picked-up, mailed, or emailed.
