[ARCHIVED] Geneva Avenue Stormwater Improvement Project – Open House Event June 29

Stormwater Management Open House Event

In its continuing effort to prioritize the highest-impact, most cost effective stormwater management projects, the City of Elmhurst has approved a contract with Alfred Benesch & Company for the design of the Geneva Avenue Stormwater Improvement Project. This project will entail the construction of storm sewers pipes under Third Street and Geneva Avenue flowing to a new detention basin on the east side of the Geneva Avenue to provide overland flood relief. Final design work is underway and the City is expecting to seek bids in the next month for this project. This project involves the installation of a small detention basin on the 4 properties that the City purchased. The current schedule calls for the project to begin this late summer/early fall, with completion in the winter. This project has the potential to greatly reduce flooding in this area during significant rainfall events.

On Wednesday, June 29th, from 5 pm to 7 pm at City Hall (209 N. York Street) the City will host a public open house for this project to provide information to the residents. With the open house format, you can come at any time (5pm - 7pm) to see drawings and talk with the engineers. City staff along with Benesch staff will be on hand to answer your questions.

If you have specific questions regarding this project, please call Howard Killian, Director of Public Works at (630) 530-3041, or Kent Johnson, City Engineer, at (630) 530-3024.
