Save the date for “Special Kids Day, City Works!” on July 31, 2022 from noon – 4 p.m., located at Elmhurst City Hall (209 N. York St.). This new family event, designed for kids & adults with special needs, is brought to you by the Special Kids Day Organization and the City of Elmhurst.
Come explore how the City of Elmhurst works! Learn from our Firefighters, Paramedics, Police Officers, and Public Works Team. Enjoy a quiet space for story time by the Elmhurst History Museum. Elmhurst’s Mayor will take your “vote” to find out some of the City’s favorites!
In partnership with Elmhurst’s Special Kids Day organization, the City of Elmhurst aims to create a unique experience for individuals with special needs; a “City Works” tour to learn how cities operate. The environment will be designed for participants to feel comfortable and free to explore different stations. Departments will provide demonstrations, hands on activities, public safety tips, and a fun opportunity tailored for individuals with special needs to interact with the city employees and elected officials who provide essential services to the community.
Started in 1990, Special Kids Day began as a holiday event for children with special needs and their families to visit Santa Claus without obstacles. Today, Special Kids Day has evolved into a not-for-profit, 501(c)-(3) organization dedicated to providing celebratory events for children with disabilities and their families in environments designed to accommodate their special needs.
Any person who has a disability requiring a reasonable accommodation to participate in this event, should contact Emily Wagner, ADA Compliance Officer, Monday through Friday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., City of Elmhurst, 209 N. York Street, Elmhurst, IL 60126, or call 630-530-8095 TDD, within a reasonable time before the event. Please provide as much notice as possible for sign language interpreting requests.
