Electronic Recycling Events

The City will host an Electronics & Textile/Clothing Recycling events quarterly at the Public Works Facility (985 S Riverside Drive, Elmhurst) from 8 am until noon. This event is in cooperation with DuPage County.

ELECTRONICS RECYCLING:

THE FOLLOWING ELECTRONIC ITEMS WILL BE ACCEPTED: Computers, Laptops, Servers, Computer Monitors*, Televisions*, Printers, Facsimile, Scanners, VCR and DVD Players, Video Game Consoles, Cable and Converter Boxes, Satellite Receivers, Electronic Keyboards, Mice, Portable Music Players, Holiday String Lights, Wire, Cables, Adapters, Power Supplies, Cell Phones, Modems, Tablets, Phones, Docking Stations.

All acceptable items are FREE of charge, EXCLUDING the following:

* CRT, Flat Screens, Projection TVs and Monitors*

  • Under 21 inch screen = $25.00 per unit
  • 21 inch screen and over = $35.00 per unit

PAYMENTS:

  • Tax-deductible donation fee applies for all TVs and monitors.
  • Cash or Credit Card accepted, No checks.
  • Payment may be made in advance at http://recycling.eworksesi.org/or on site. Coupon and tax deductible receipt provided at the time of drop off for any fees

THE FOLLOWING ELECTRONIC ITEMS WILL NOT BE ACCEPTED: Large and small appliances, electronics from businesses, hazardous and chemical waste will not be accepted.

Textile & Clothing Recycling

Don’t use it? Don’t wear it? Don’t like it? DuPage County has partnered with eWorks and RewearAble to collect clothing and textiles for reuse and recycling. Items not able to be reused will be turned into cleaning/painting rags or reused in insulation, packing material and carpeting. RewearAble is a non-profit that provides sustainable employment for adults with disabilities. 

Packaging specifications: 

  • Please ensure all of the textiles are dry Remove all hangers
  • Remove any sharp objects

Due to processing limitations, RewearAble CAN NOT accept items of any kind that are WET OR  DIRTY.

Acceptable Categories, from babies to adults:

  • Clothes ANY KIND: tops, bottoms, socks, outerwear, underwear, accessories, paired shoes, suits, swimsuits 
  • Shoes
  • Handbags
  • Bedding
  • Belts
  • Towels
  • Coats, hats, scarfs, and gloves
  • Household items - tablecloths (cloth), cloth napkin and placemats
    Bathing suits, coverups and baseball hats

Unacceptable Items: Wet items, kitchen supplies, hard items, sharp items, wood, office supplies, hard toys, glass items, tools, appliances, paper, games, books, strollers, metal items, dishes, lamps, blinds, wrapping paper, car seats, puzzles, figurines, plastic items, wall to wall rugs. 

This will be a quarterly event held at the Elmhurst Public Works Facility (985 S. Riverside Dr.)

Household Hazardous Waste can be safely disposed of at no cost to residents at the Regional Drop-Off Site. This Drop-Off Site is provided as part of a joint effort from DuPage County & SCARCE.

Holiday Recycling Checklist

Pumpkin Composting

Elmhurst collects used pumpkins the first Saturday after Halloween at the Public Works Facility, 985 S. Riverside Drive in Elmhurst from 9 am- noon. By recycling your pumpkins, you are reducing the volume in the landfills and the pumpkins are composted for reuse.

Cooking Oil Recycling

This is an annual collection of cooking oil that takes place the Saturday after Thanksgiving. Bring your used cooking oil to the Public Works Facility at 985 S. Riverside Drive in Elmhurst from  9 am- noon where the oil will be collected and recycled. Dumping in the sewer system can lead to problem with your line or the public system.
