Those seeking to run for local political office at the April 6, 2021 Consolidated Election may pick-up candidate packets from the City Clerk at the Administration Office (second floor) beginning Tuesday, September 15, 2020. Eight (8) Aldermanic seats one (1) for each of the seven (7) Wards and two (2) in the 1st Ward, Mayor, City Clerk and City Treasurer are up for election.
The first date to circulate petitions for candidacy is Tuesday, September 22, 2020.
Candidate filing will take place Monday, December 14, 2020 thru Monday, December 21, 2020 at the Administration Office (second floor) in City Hall, between the hours of 8:30 a.m. and 5:00 p.m. If multiple candidates running for the same office are in position at the open of business (8:30 a.m.) on Monday, December 14, 2020 they will file simultaneously and a lottery will be used to determine ballot placement. If multiple candidates from the same Ward file within the last hour of filing (4:00 p.m.-5:00 p.m. Monday, December 21, 2020) they will be considered filed simultaneously and a lottery will be used to determine ballot placement.
Lottery for ballot placement will take place at the Administration Office (second floor) at 9:00 a.m., Monday, December 28, 2020. The lottery is open to the public. Candidates are not required to be present.
Nomination papers shall be deemed to be valid unless objections are filed in writing (an original and two copies) within five business days after the last day for filing nomination papers. The objector’s petitions are filed with the same office in which the nominating petitions are filed. Objections may be filed during regular business hours of 8:30 a.m. – 5:00 p.m. at the Administration Office (second floor) within five business days following the close of the petition filing period.
Copies of Candidate Packets can be obtained through F.O.I.A. and will be available after 10:00 a.m. on Tuesday, December 15, 2020 . Copies can be picked up or emailed.
