Inquiries on the City Water Rates

City of Elmhurst Logo

The City has received numerous inquiries on the City water rates.

The rates have not increased since May of 2017.  If you believe your water bill is higher than usual, there are several steps the City encourages you to take.

  • Make sure that none of your water system is leaking, including faucets, running toilets, damaged irrigation system, etc.
  • Call the City at 630-530-3110 or 630-530-3111 and ask for a water department personnel to visit your home to assist locating any leaks.
  • If no leaks are found, the City can remove your meter for testing by a 3rd party company. If your meter is found to be defective, the meter will be replaced.  If the meter is found to be accurate you will be charged a $25 fee for the test.

Recently the City assisted several homeowners who thought their bills were more than typical. In one case, the meter tested to within 98.5% accurate, others were associated with usage such as watering of their yard during the Summer/Fall dry spell.  Other cases involved leaking toilets and other fixtures that caused water loss.

The City is in beginning stages of a City Wide Water Meter Change Out Program to provide new water meters to all residents and will provide residents with the opportunity to monitor their water usage on a regular basis.
