Today, Sears Holdings announced the closure of 28 retail locations, including the K-Mart located at 265 S. IL Route 83 in Elmhurst. Today’s announcement brings the tally to over 350 closures of Sears and Kmart locations as the retailer seeks stability; transforming their business model to better match the needs and preferences of consumers.

A statement on the Sears Holdings’ website indicated that “Eligible associates impacted by these closures will receive severance and will have the opportunity to apply for open positions at area Kmart or Sears stores.”

Elmhurst has a strong history of cooperation with the Elmhurst Crossings Management Team, City staff has been in contact with the management company today and will work in conjunction with them and Sears Holdings to plan for the closing of this Kmart location and identify a replacement tenant(s) for the approximately 110,000sf site.

Liquidation sales will begin as early as August 31 at these closing stores.
