How Do I Submit to the Building Department?

**Please follow as noted below; if any of the items listed below are sent to the building department in any way other then what is noted below it will not be considered received**

Permit Applications:

There are two options when submitting a permit application.

-Permit applications can be brought to the Community Development counter located at City Hall, 209 N. York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126

OR

-Permit applications can be emailed to planreview@elmhurst.org

Permit Plans, Scope of Work, and or Plat of Survey:

All Initial permit plans, scope of work, and or plats should be submitted with the permit application.

Small project permit plans, scope of work, and or plats are defined as the following:

  • Outdoor Kitchens, fire pits, pools, patio, pergola, sidewalks, driveway, sewer/water repairs, siding, windows, sheds, fences, generators, lawn sprinklers, parking lot, drywell, deck, or new air conditioning units

-Small project permit plans, scope of work, and or plats can be brought to the Community Development counter located at City Hall, 209 N. York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126

OR

-Permit applications can be emailed to planreview@elmhurst.org

Large project permit plans, scope of work and or plats are defined as the following:

  • Any project not listed under the small project definition listed above.

-Large project permits plans, scope of work and or plats should only be submitted to planreview@elmhurst.org. Do not bring in hard copies of the plans; all plans should be electronically sent in a DWF format.

All Commercial Project permit plans, scope of work and or plats should be submit to planreview@elmhurst.org. Two hard copies are required for the fire department.

Contractor Registration, Bonds and License:

All contractors are required to be registered and bonded with the city. Roofers, electricians, and plumbers are required to provide the city with an updated license. Please see contractor registration application for additional bond and license information and requirements. If the registration, bond and license is going to be updated or provided as a result of a current project please provide the city with the address of the current project when submitting the forms.

Bonds & Licenses:

-Updated bonds and license can be brought to the Community Development counter located at City Hall, 209 N. York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126

OR

-Updated bonds and license can be emailed to bonds@elmhurst.org.

OR

-Mail the bonds and license to: Community Development, Elmhurst City Hall, 209 N. York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126

Contractor Registration:

-Registration with payment can only be brought into the Community Development counter located at City Hall, 209 N. York St, Elmhurst, IL 60126; or mailed to Community Development with a check for the registration fee.

**The city will not take payments over the phone. Do not email or fax the contractor registration form**

Spot Survey:

All spot survey’s need to be emailed to: spotsurvey@elmhurst.org

Blower Door/Visual, Manual J, Duct Test Reports:

All energy reports need to be emailed to: energyreport@elmhurst.org
