Recently, Elmhurst residents received a notice in the mail from Spark Energy regarding the City’s electric aggregation program. The notice inaccurately states that “Aggregation is ending and once again you have the power to choose! Beginning with your August 2015 meter reading, you will automatically be switched back to ComEd unless you make the switch to Spark Energy today!” Again, the statement is totally inaccurate - you will not be switched back to ComEd in August, the City’s aggregation program is with Constellation and the program is effective until August, 2017.
Also, the notice offers a rate of 6.79¢ plus a monthly fee of $4.95, plus an early termination fee of $50. For additional information on the City’s program and current ComEd rates, please visit the City’s website at Electric Aggregation Program Page The City will be filing a complaint with the Illinois Commerce Commission regarding this issue. Residents receiving this notice may also file a complaint by calling the Illinois Commerce Commission Consumer Services Division at 800-524-0795 or visiting http://www.icc.illinois.gov/consumer/complaint.
Residents are advised to be cautious of energy supply solicitations, from mail pieces to direct callers. Residents are recommended to never release their account number to a solicitor under any circumstance, unless they have chosen to switch to a new supplier after reading and understanding the terms and conditions of the program. Also, please note that ComEd will not ask for ratepayers’ account numbers over the phone, nor make door-to-door calls.
